FAQ
About Hunted+Gathered Chocolate
What is bean-to-bar chocolate?
Bean-to-bar means the maker controls the entire process from raw cacao bean to finished bar. Hunted+Gathered sorts, roasts, winnows, grinds, refines, tempers, and moulds every bar at the Cremorne factory in Melbourne. The process takes up to five days. Nothing is outsourced.
What does single-origin mean?
Single-origin means the cacao in each bar comes from one specific farm, cooperative, or growing region, not blended from multiple sources. Each origin has a distinct flavour profile shaped by soil, climate, fermentation, and drying. Single-origin chocolate makes those differences legible.
How many ingredients are in Hunted+Gathered chocolate?
Most dark chocolate bars contain three: organic cacao beans, organic cacao butter, and organic coconut sugar. Some varieties include one additional ingredient such as roasted macadamia nuts, toasted sesame seeds, or ground coffee. Milk bars and spreads use sunflower lecithin. There are no dairy ingredients and no vegetable fats in any dark chocolate variety.
Is Hunted+Gathered chocolate organic?
Yes. Hunted+Gathered is certified organic through ACO. All cacao ingredients are organic.
Is the cacao ethically sourced?
Yes. Cacao is sourced single-origin from Zorzal Cacao in the Dominican Republic, Kokoa Kamili in Tanzania, and Makira Gold in the Solomon Islands. Zorzal Cacao is the world's first bird-friendly certified cacao farm and holds Fair for Life certification. Each supplier provides full transparency reports covering their ethical and farming practices.
Is the dark chocolate vegan?
All dark chocolate bars are vegan. They contain no dairy, no honey, and no animal-derived ingredients.
Where is the chocolate made?
Every bar is made at the Hunted+Gathered factory at 68 Gwynne Street, Cremorne, Victoria 3121, Australia.
Where can I buy Hunted+Gathered chocolate?
The full range is available online at huntedandgathered.com.au. The Fitzroy gift shop at 226 Gertrude Street is open Wednesday to Friday, 11:00am to 5:30pm, and Saturday to Sunday, 10:00am to 5:00pm. How should I store the chocolate?
Store in a cool, dry place between 15°C and 20°C, away from direct sunlight and strong odours. Avoid refrigeration where possible, as condensation affects the surface texture. Sealed in its wrapper, the chocolate will keep for at least 12 months.
